Expecting the Unexpected and couldn't be happier!

First things first, (12 weeks ago to be exact) a baby was conceived! That's right; Kevin and I are expecting our first bambino November 17. It was a bit of a shock to us. We had decided to stop taking the pill at the beginning of the year and were waiting to see what happened. I wasn't sure if we would run into any problems or not. In my mind, I thought it may take 6 months or so like it did many of my friends. Well...I started to feel really sick one morning so I decided to get up around 6am and take a test. Confused and unsure, I thought, this can't be right. I must have read the directions 10 times. So, I went back to bed and woke up around 8 to take another one. Again, same result but still confused. I called the doctor and went in for blood work that morning. I wouldn't get the results until the following Monday so I had to wait the entire weekend--UNSURE. While I was on the way home from the doctor, I bought another test. This time, it was one of the 'good ones' where you actually read 'pregnant' or 'not pregnant.' Definitely PREGNANT! I finally believed it myself and broke the news to Kevin. We sat on the couch in silence for about 20 minutes thinking about how our lives were about to drastically change. As I said before, we did 'kind of' plan this but weren't really expecting any results until the summer. When planning, you think you are ready but there is no way to REALLY be prepared. We told our parents at the 7 week mark and of course they were all thrilled! We went in at 6 weeks and got our first ultrasound (since they weren't sure how far along I was) and we were able to hear the heartbeat-AMAZING! At our 12 week appointment this week, they did another ultrasound and we got to see the little peanut and hear the heartbeat again (161 bpm if you believe the old wives tale.) It was kicking and moving like crazy but cooperated very well for some pictures. Definitely a product of Kevin and Me:) We are super excited and feel extremely blessed. I am so grateful to all of our family and friends for being such a great support system. We go back to the doctor every 4 weeks and will find out the sex at the end of June. Of course, Kevin is hoping for the next Trinity High School (Louisville, KY) football star and I just want him/her to be healthy. I will keep you all posted throughout this journey. For now, say a little prayer for a healthy baby and a healthy mommy. I cant wait to share this experience and look back one day to remember everything. Pictures and a weekly post to follow soon.
